Look first, then talk.
Some people here are already on camera in a room anyone can drop into. Rather than rolling the dice on the next random stranger, you can look around, say hi, and only start a call when someone catches your eye.
How it works
Open the Live tab in the online list, swipe up or down between people who are live, type a hello in the room chat, and start a one-to-one video call from inside the room when it feels right.
The idea
Stranger chat, with a look before the hello
Random matching is a coin toss on purpose. You press start, a face appears, and you decide on the spot whether to stay. Live now turns that order around. Some people on OmeTVCam go live on camera with a room open, and you can wander in, watch for a bit, and only then make up your mind about talking.
It is still the Ome TV style of chat people search for: strangers, cameras and no idea who is coming next. The difference is a small pause to read the room before you say anything. For anyone who finds the instant face-to-face of random matching a bit abrupt, that pause changes the whole feel of it.
People go live from all over the world, so whenever you open the Live tab there is a fair chance someone is on. How busy it looks shifts with the hour and the day of the week, and we are not going to claim it never goes quiet.
Walkthrough
From the Live tab to a one-to-one call
Nothing here needs setting up. If you have used the online list before, you already know where to begin.
Open the Live tab
The online list has a Live section next to everyone else who is around. Every card in it is someone who is on camera at this moment.
Step into a room
Tap a card and you are in, watching live. A room that needs something first, such as a follow, tells you on the way in.
Say hi in the chat
Type into the room chat like you would in any conversation. Messages in another language can be turned into yours with the translate button, so someone being from far away is no obstacle.
Swipe for the next person
Not feeling it? Swipe up or down and the next person who is live slides into view. It is the same instinct as the next button in random chat, only with your thumb.
Call when it clicks
If the chat is going well, the video call button at the bottom of the room sends that person a one-to-one call request straight from there. No hunting for them in the online list afterwards.

Neither replaces the other. They fit different moods, and plenty of people switch between them in the same evening.

Some parts of a live room cost coins, and it is better to hear that now than halfway through a chat. Gifts are mostly paid, although a room will sometimes give you a free one to send. Certain rooms ask for an entry gift, a follow or a topped-up account before letting you in, and some run a wheel you join by sending a gift. A video call started from a room is a private one-to-one call, charged in coins. The coins page lists what costs what and what stays free.

Making a decent first impression in someone's room
Walking into a live room is a bit like joining a group at a party where someone is already talking. A short, friendly hello lands better than a wall of questions, and replying to what they just said beats pasting the same line into every room you visit.
The usual rules still apply. Anyone in a room can be reported with a single tap, and the safety page explains what gets people removed. If someone makes you uncomfortable, report, swipe on and forget about it; you owe nobody an explanation for leaving.

What is Live now on OmeTVCam?
It is a section of the online list showing people who are live on camera right now. You can drop into their room, chat in text, and start a one-to-one video call from inside the room.
Is it free to watch someone who is live?
Walking into an open room and typing in the chat costs nothing. Rooms with an entry requirement say so up front, and paid gifts and private calls are covered by coins.
How do I move to the next person?
Swipe up or down inside a live room. The next person who is live loads in, much like pressing next during random matching.
What if the person in the room speaks a different language?
That is what the translate button is for. The room chat has one that turns messages into your own language, so you can follow along and reply.
Is anyone live late at night?
People go live from many time zones, so there is often someone on at odd hours. The number changes through the day, and quiet stretches do happen.
Can I video call someone I see live?
Yes. A video call button at the bottom of the room sends them a one-to-one call request. Private calls are paid in coins.
