When to press next
and when to wait a beat.
Skipping is built into random video chat, and you should never feel bad about doing it. The trick is doing it at a human pace, for real reasons, and without leaving people hanging mid-word.

What pressing next actually does
The next button is the one control you will touch more than any other. It works the same in all three match modes.
It ends the current call
The person you were talking to drops off on their side as well. You owe nobody an explanation, and there is no reason form to fill in.
It starts a fresh search
You go straight back into the random pool, and a new match loads in as soon as one is found. You do not need to return to the start screen.
It is the same across modes
Video, voice or text, next behaves identically. Changing which mode you are in is a separate choice from the matching screen.
It counts as a match
Each new connection draws on your free matches or, once those run out, your coins. Skipping is never penalised, but it is not a free reroll either.
Timing
Good moments to move on, and moments to hang on
Nobody is obliged to stay. Still, a lot of great conversations start awkwardly, so it helps to know the difference.
Press next when
- Someone is rude, explicit or making you uncomfortable. Report first if it was serious, then move on.
- The camera shows nothing but a ceiling, a dark room or a looping clip.
- You have both run out of things to say and the silence is not a friendly one.
- The connection keeps freezing and neither of you can hear the other.
Give it a moment when
- The video is still loading or the picture has not sharpened yet.
- The other person looks shy and has not said hello. Saying it first often works.
- You do not share a language. A typed line and the translate button may bridge it.
- They look nothing like what you expected. That is sort of the point of random chat.
Speed limits
What happens if you skip too fast
Picture it from the system side. A real person needs a couple of seconds to take in a face and a voice before making up their mind. A script scanning for targets does not. When a session is nothing but a blur of connections that each last a fraction of a second, it stops looking human, and chat sites in general treat that pattern as a possible bot.

- Expect to be skipped tooYou will get skipped by people who never saw your face properly. It is not personal, and it happens to everyone.
- Try a calmer mode when you are tiredIf you notice you are skipping everyone, a slower pace in voice or text can reset things.
Outside the random pool
The swipe version in live rooms
Live rooms have their own next: swipe up or down to leave one person's room and land in another. The same courtesy applies, and so does the same instinct to give each room a second before judging it. There is more about how that side works on the live now page.
On OmeTVCam, pressing next at a normal human pace never counts against you. It is not logged as a mark on your account, it is not treated as rude, and nobody sees a tally of how often you skip. OmeTVCam is run independently, so this describes our own site only.

Will someone be told that I skipped past them?
They see the call end, which is exactly what they would see if they had pressed next themselves. You do not have to give a reason, and there is nothing to explain afterwards.
Can skipping too fast get me banned?
On most chat sites, connecting and dropping at machine speed looks like a bot and can trigger spam checks. Give each match a couple of seconds to load and you will stay clear of that.
Can I press next as often as I want?
There is no rule against skipping at a normal pace. Every new match draws on your free matches or coins, though, so each skip does use one.
Can I go back to someone I skipped?
Not through the random pool, since every draw is fresh. If you liked someone, follow them during the call so you have a way to find them again.
How do I skip in a live room?
Swipe up or down to move to another person who is live. It works the same way as next, just without the random search.
